Weirdness

I’ve been tagged by Robyn, bless her, to list some weird facts about me. Weird? Me? This could be difficult….

I love marmalade on toast with slices of cheese on top.

I can’t have a shower when I’m alone in the house without thinking of Norman Bates. In fact if I can, I’ll try to shower when someone is here. If I’m alone, it’s quick. Very quick.

If someone’s back is peeling after being in the sun, I could spend hours just ripping it off in long sheets, (a bit like trying to peel an apple in one go.) It makes my mouth water.

I can’t sleep unless I am covered up with something – even if it’s really hot I need at least a sheet over me. And I always cover my mouth. (I woke up with a spider on my tongue once.)

I am absolutely petrified of spiders. When I was a kid, the boys at school used to hold me down, catch spiders, pull a few legs off and throw them away, then put the frustrated spiders in my hair. The above incident didn’t help matters either!

It drives me crazy if someone makes toast and doesn’t wipe the crumbs up. If I see those stuck-on black bits on the worktop, I go quietly insane.

When I go to the supermarket I always buy tomatoes, but I hate them. I’ll make myself a salad, chop up the tomatoes and put them on the plate, and then leave them. I’ll also make a cheese and tomato sandwich and take the tomato out before I eat it.

My favourite place to sit is the floor. In fact, when we bought our new three piece suite, I sat on the floor all afternoon and looked at it.

If I’m watching one of those live chat shows, (like Oprah,) and someone in the audience starts to say something really stupid, or talks for too long, or basically does anything which the host may find difficult, I get this really uneasy feeling in my stomach and feel so embarrassed that I have to walk out of the room.

When my son was younger I’d tuck him into bed and say “nunight, godbless, see you in the morning, sweet dreams, I love you. (He would say the same thing back after each one.) And then, if a few minutes later he called me, I’d sort out whatever he wanted but I had to go through the entire process again because those 5 words HAD to be the last things I said to him. In the end it got so ridiculous that we shortened it to NooGSSIe. I still say it now and he’s 17!

When I’m getting ready to go to bed and checking things are locked and unplugged, I walk around the house like an idiot looking at each one in turn and saying out loud: “off, off, off, off, locked, off, locked, off, off.” I really am beginning to worry about this list!

I can do something very strange with my elbow. Actually, I don’t think it’s strange at all, but other people always say “God, will you stop doing that, it makes me feel sick.” Perhaps I’ll post a pic – it’ll be easier than explaining it.

I’ve had four experiences with ghosts.

Ok, there you have it – and I think I’ve just had a bit of a reality check and realised how completely ridiculous I am. Thanks for that Robyn!

Great list, I got a lump in my throat when reading how you tuck you son in, I think that is awesome.

  3. Kristen says:

I have to have blankets too!!!

I laughed out loud when you said you were beginning to worry about this list

  4. erika says:

Great list! I always sit on the floor too!

  5. the big one says:

What is it that makes the floor such a wonderful place to sit? I always end up there too (sometimes even at work).

Liked the story about tucking your son in and how you still tell him NooGSSIe – one of those tender memories we all cherish…

But do have to tell you on your getting ready for bedtime routine – I think you are at least one “off” short! lol

  6. Miss Understood says:

Byron – we don’t get many of those over here, thank God!

Leigh – ahh, sweetie, don’t cry!

Kristen – Is your cover to keep the spiders out too?

Erica – There’s so much more you can do on the floor!

The Big One – When you are on the floor, you don’t have to reach as far for the wine. As for being one “off” short – I counted…and you’re right!

  7. Byron says:

  8. April says:

I am SO the same about toast crumbs!

I get embarrassed for people on TV, too.

With my five year old, we have a routine, too. After reading a book (or three if he can get away with it), it’s lights out and: sing Rock-a-bye-baby, rub his back and say: Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs tickle…’cause I love you more than lemonade! And I usually have to repeat the singing, just to get him to lie still long enough to go to sleep.

  9. Haaaaaaa says:

I can’t sleep uncovered either. My wife makes fun of me because I check the door to see if it’s locked four or fives times a night.

    Wha happened with the ghosts?

  10. Miss Understood says:

Byron – is that ALL you miss about the UK??? lol

April – I love you more than lemonade – that is sooo sweet! I bet he thinks that’s absolutely loads and loads!

haaaaaaa – Now – that IS obsessive!!! I don’t feel quite so bad now! As for the ghosts – I think I’ll post an entry on it. Thanks for the inspiration. x

  11. the big one says:

Other nice things about the floor – so much room to sprawl…

Not as far as to fall when you’ve reached for the wine one time too many…

And such a nice perspective on chairs…

  12. Byron says:

No…Miss understood…i miss the women like you as i havent had sexier,i miss the indian food at Bayswater,I miss London when sunny,I miss riding my bike around London on a sunny day….i miss many other things but i do go often…..

  13. Miss Understood says:

The Big One – Yep…sprawling is good! As for falling over when you’ve had too much wine – speak for yourself. And chairs??? Would you like to expand on that?

Byron – On behalf of the British women, thanks! And you have to love Indian food in the UK – there’s a restaurant on every corner, and curry is our national dish!

  14. JD says:

hmmm, i left a comment this morning, now it’s gone. sorry. umm, the elbow thing is strange, ouch. ;) funny list, really got a giggle out of it.

  15. Miss Understood says:

    JD – I didn’t delete you, honestly! x

ocd much? lol just kidding…i, too, can’t sleep w/o covers. they have to be up to my neck to feel ‘protected’. if i go anywhere of great distance, i not only double check, not even triple check, but i’ll check 100 times to make sure i have my driver’s license (if flying, the boarding pass, too). and my girls and i always say, goodnight, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite, sweet dreams, think of something happy like rainbows, flowers, and all that good stuff…love you. goodnight. bye. and this is all said after we do hugs, eskimos and kisses lol

  21. rn_buffoon says:

Norman Bates huh? They are mine and hubby’s surnames. No wonder I live at the hotel.

..and before me and little Son go to sleep we always say Goodnight ; and don;t let the bed bugs bite….
