26 Things

This month’s 26 things was disasterous for me! My camera had been producing really grainy shots for a while, and then the battery decided to stop charging. With only four photographs crossed off my list, it finally gave up and died., which means I had to dip into my archives. Some of these you may have seen before, but just humour me, will ya….and look at ‘em again!

2
I took this one last summer in my garden.

A Bridge
Again taken last summer, this bridge is on a beautiful walk which leads up to Haldon Belvedere – also known as Lawrence Castle.

Chocolate
Well, it looks like chocolate, but it is in fact chocolate soap. This stuff is gorgeous! I could give you a big descriptive now of my times spent in the bath with this bar, but quite frankly, it would be obscene!

Fruit
Another from the archives…my Mum with a lime! What more can I say?

In my Bathroom
I think this is as about creative as it gets!

In the Sky
I love this picture, but I’m really annoyed because it’s out of focus. I tried to capture it again, but by the time I was ready to take it, the sun had already broken throught the clouds.

Light
The sun shining through the rocks at Dawlish Warren beach.

Newborn
This little kitten lived next door, and often found his way to our house through the catflap. Ain’t he cute?
Unfortunately though, I found him by the side of the road having been knocked over, and had to tell the neighbour he’d died. What followed was one of those moments when I wished I’d been somewhere else. I’d been at the bus stop on my way to work when I saw him, and telling the neighbour meant missing my bus. When she appeared at the bus stop 5 minutes later with tears streaming down her face, a cardboard box in her hands, and asking me if “I could do it,” I then missed my second bus! Needless to say, my boss wasn’t too happy that day.
And I really don’t like touching stiff things, either. (ok…ok…bring on the gags…)

Red
Some of you may remember this from last year. I posted it one Saturday and asked if any of you knew what it was called. I must admit to feeling a bit stupid when a few of you told me it was a bottle brush. D’uh! Anyway…the tree is in our garden overhanging the bottom pond, and I love it.

Remote
Now, tell me. Is this really necessary? We actually have a remote which operates everything we have, but do we use it? LoL. If I ever wanted to listen to to a music channel through the hi fi speakers and record it at the same time, I wouldn’t have the faintest idea where to start! I think it’s the TV remote to flick to Sky, the Sky remote to chose the channel, the video remote to turn the video on, the hi fi remote to turn that on, then…hang on….um….I need the right AV channel. Is that the tv or the stereo remote? Then I need to make it come out of the speakers. Oh bollocks to it! I haven’t got a clue!

Round
Now the karaoke is something I can operate! This is one of the many mics.

Still Life
Well, it’s pretty still, but full of life. Lurking beneath that pond water are a family of disgusting, horrible, slimy things. Yep…frogs. (Sorry Blessed.) I hate them.

Blur
And this….sob….is the final picture my camera took before it died.

Now, I urge you to go to Ali’s .
My photos were all taken using a very basic digital camera with no accessories. But if you want to see what’s achievable when you have a half decent camera, a few props, and a lot more knowledge…then go over and see her results. Honestly, for someone who’s only recently taken up photography, she’s absolutely amazing. And I hate her.

Oh…and before you go…would you all be kind enough to give us some more words for next month’s 26 Things? Nouns are good! (Although we’d be happy with whatever you give us.)
Dan is jumping on board with Ali and I this month ,so feel free to join in too.

  1. Ali says:

Hahahahah, you love me really. x

I love this blur picture. you should experiment with some other subject matter with that effect..do you know how long you would have to play in photoshop to achieve that??? Joking aside, archives or not, they are still all yours and a pleasure to view again.

Your ‘light’ picture is totally amazing, I am sooo jealous.

Good job. (now go and pinch Dan’s camera, quick, shhhh…)

Are we running a mini February one or waiting for the online March? I don’t mind either way Elaine.

  2. Miss Understood says:

I think my blur picture is kind of sad really…it shows my camera in its last, faltering seconds. It gave me a lot of joy over the past couple of years…but I suppose it was time to move on anyway.

Guess who’s birthday is in March :)

Did you really mean the ‘Light’ picture was amazing? I liked ‘In the Sky’ the best, even if it was blurry.

I think it may be hard to prise Dan away from his new toy so quickly, so I’m going to use Robs (if I can work out how to turn it on.)

I’ll ask my lovely friends for some more words, shall I? (God help us!)

  3. Ted says:

I got words, oh yes, I got words.

Might not be fit for women, children, or the weak-minded, but I have picture suggestion….

What’s the emoticon for waggling your eyebrows in a suggestive manner.

Seriously, these are great shots. You have a terrific eye. Is there anything you don’t do well?

  4. the big one says:

In the Sky was one of those truly awesome shots that depend on catching everything at just the right second. If there was a single type of picture that I would see as a favorite, its pictures like this that somehow capture the essence of light. Like the picture you took when we were on the beach of the wet sand shimmering. As for it being out of focus, its barely noticeable, and somehow, it seems to fit the hour and the mood.

And sad though it was, blur was intriguing. You just have to learn how to do it without killing your camera in the process…

As for your comment above, was that an invitation to go ahead and send you words for your next round of pictures? I shall take it as such.

Remembering that last time you all wanted nouns, and thinking of your favorite things of course, for my first choice, I vote for: feet

And for my second choice, noun or not: exposed

    Have fun!

  5. Suze says:

I was just reading the post below. That is exactly why I quit my job more than 12 months ago.

Take time out to recover and start to enjoy life again, that’s exactly what I did.

It will give you more time to blog and do things you want to do.

As for me I’m bricking it about starting my new job tomorrow!

  6. Miss Understood says:

Ted – You are far too kind! Yes…there are lots of things I don’t do well….would you like me to list them all? Lol.
Now…about that eyebrow thing. We shall call it “A suggestive eyebrow waggle”…and I’m looking forward to capturing it for you. x

The Big One – I like ‘light’ pictures too…especially ones which capture shadows. Of course…anything going on in the sky fascinates me, as you already know. (Wish I could photograph a shining star…)

As for your words…Exposed is great, but feet? FEET?
    ARE YOU SERIOUS?
    I shall…um…do my best! x

Suze – I don’t plan on having too much time off, but I definitely needed to get out of there!
Fingers crossed for you for Monday. I know how scary it is. You’ll do great! x

  7. rn_buffoon says:

Seriously; you hate frogs? Even Kermie?

I’m not big on picking them up though…

Great pics Miss- can’t wait for your’s and Ali’s next list.

  8. the big one says:

Shall tell you the secret of how to photograph a shining star.

    Take a mirror…

    x

  9. Ted says:

    A couple of words:

    Dessert
    Bold
    Open
    Brush
    Jewel

and, of course, the popular “ineffable glory of you”

Was that more than a couple of words?

  10. Ali says:

Elaine, you are absolutely right.. I meant your ‘in the sky’ photograph. Thats what I get for scrolling back up to see which one it was and not going far enough!! Beautiful, just beautiful

  11. Homme and Femme says:

You are a very sexy lady. Great pics. xx

  12. Steven Novak says:

    I want some chocolate soap!

    Steve~

  13. Fluffycat says:

I totally recognize the bottle of LUSH stuff in your bathroom from the picture. We finally have those stores out here in California, great stuff.

    Sad about the little kitten.

  14. rn_buffoon says:

Hi Miss- thanks for your email- I’d be happy to help with your list!

    Memories.

    Pain.

And for the record I think you were selling last months photos short; I really enjoyed them at least!

Also Thanks for asking- my little Son is enjoying his new school better than the last!

  15. Suck Me says:

Ummm I’m not exactly sure what the words are for? Do you use them for ideas for pictures? If so then I have some suggestive words …… slope, sharp, bulb and treacle (no not the London way of saying it lol ;) )

I really like that bridge scene :)

  16. Kristen says:

    That final picture looks creepy.

    Like a ghost

  17. Kitty's Tiger says:

OMG and she is a photographer also. I never knew. thank you now I know where to get my pics taken of me and kitty reenwing our vowels. Someday, and overseas would be a great place to do it. So get your little but in gear and get a new camera. Honestly Kiddo really nice. Very nice.

  18. Green Eyes says:

    Great pics, Miss.

Not sure if you’ve used these, but hey: night, vase, alone, family, orange, bed, beauty, need more?

  19. kindabiz says:

the chocolate soap wud be great enticer for my love.

and Hysteria …. wud be a good word !!!!!

  20. Cherrie says:

These were fun! We have too many remotes too. Only our daughters know what they are for. Hardin just gets up and presses buttons on the TV set and the VCR until it does what he wants. Yes, VCR. We use trailing-edge technology.

The one with the roll of toilet paper is very creative. And chocolate soap? Must be aromatherapy, another area where my daughters are far ahead of me.

  21. erika says:

I love those pictures! Now I want to hear what is going on with that chocolate soap!

  22. Blessed says:

Love the shot of looking thru the hole of the toliet paper and
Love the pic of the sun thru clouds…reminds me of heaven.

  23. Kitty says:

Will you share your chocolate soap with me?

I liked the in the sky photo, the bridge is wonderful and light.

    You did a great job.

My word suggestions…. heart, closed, blooming. Hope them arent too hard.

  24. thru my eyes says:

    HAPPY VALENTINES DAY SWEETIE!!!
    xoxo
