2006 Overview

I stole this from rn_buffoon. (Blessed, I’m still working on yours – it’s harder than it looks!)

  1. What did you do in 2006 that you’d never done before?

I started a blog. I took off my clothes on the internet. I used a tile cutter. I questioned my sanity.

  1. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions and have you made more for this year?

I didn’t make any last year…and this year’s is pretty vague – just to have a fantastic one.

  1. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Nope.

  1. Did anyone close to you die?

No one really close to me died, but far too many who were close to the family did.

  1. What countries did you visit?

That should have said ‘counties’ not ‘countries’.
Oh…hang on…the answer is still ‘none’, lol.

  1. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?

Peace of mind. Energy. A few more laughter lines.

  1. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

August 30th. It was my first day at work since June of the previous year.

  1. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Going to work on that day and finding the strength to keep going back.

  1. What was your biggest failure?

Spending the first half of the year convincing myself that I was crazy, and that I wasn’t capable of getting better.

  1. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Wel, I spose I have to count the illness in my head, don’t I? And excruciatingly painful toothache!
I fell up the steps to my house carrying a pot of curry and bashed my knee.
I walked into a doorframe.
I dropped a box of books on my foot.
I stubbed my big toe on the bed leg.
Shall I carry on? I’m just clumsy.

  1. What was the best thing you bought?

A lime green and turquoise A-line skirt with matching wedgies. I only got to wear them once before the bad weather came. I think Rob was very pleased about that!

  1. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

Mine, of course!

  1. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

My last boss (before I moved to a different shop) made me depressed. And I was completely appalled at my cats’ behaviour. They’re brothers for God’s sake.

  1. Where did most of your money go?

Bills. Bills. Bills.

  1. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

If you dismiss 2 of the reallys, then Christmas.

  1. What song will always remind you of 2006?

I have 2. David Gray – Babylon and The Eagles – Desperado. I played them constantly.

  1. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?

Happier by far. Fatter by too many pounds to mention. Consderably richer.

  1. What do you wish you’d done more of?

I wish I’d gone out more and seen my family and friends.

  1. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Drinking, smoking, crying, worrying, shouting, analysing.

  1. How did you spend Christmas?

With my family at my Mum’s house.

  1. Did you fall in love in 2006?

I fell in love with life again…and a couple of special people out here.

  1. How many one-night stands?

Doncha know I’m a married woman?

  1. What was your favourite TV program?

X Factor. Yeah, I’m sad!

  1. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

I try not to do hate, so no.

  1. What was the best book you read?

The Woman Who Painted Her Dreams – Isla Dewar

  1. What was your greatest musical discovery?

The sound of my own voice after 2 bottles of wine.

  1. What did you want and get?

A new laptop.

  1. What did you want and not get?

A new camera.

  1. What was your favourite film of this year?

I didn’t see any.

  1. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 38, and I seriously haven’t got a clue what I did. Perhaps I need to read my archives? Oh…my Mum bought me some caustic soda for the toilet, so I must have seen her that day!

  1. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Sanity.

  1. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?

If you can sit cross legged in it and still feel comfy, wear it.

  1. What kept you sane?

Cyberspace.

  1. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don’t think I fancied anyone. But now I have a bit of a thing for the guy who plays Charlie in Corrie.

  1. What political issue stirred you the most?

Wow. Were there really things going on in the world outside?

  1. Who was the best new person you met in 2006?

TME. I know we haven’t met properly, but she still counts.

  1. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006?

Don’t take anything for granted. Life is fragile. One foot is supposed to go in front of the other.

  1. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they’ll come to get me
Yeah, they’re taking me away
I’m not crazy, I’m just a little unwell
I know, right now you can’t tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you’ll see
A different side of me
I’m not crazy I’m just a little impaired
I know, right now you don’t care
But soon enough you’re gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Hey, how I used to be
How I used to be, yeah
Well I’m just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be

    This was good.

If I had the energy, I would steal it.

I really think you should watch Rocky though

  2. Miss Understood says:

D’ya know Kristen, I really was thinking of seeing it. Not because he particularly floats my boat, but because when I saw the bilboard poster yesterday, I remembered your review! And to be honest, it’s about time I sat in one of those uncomfortable, itchy chairs.

    Steal away x

  3. RobynB says:

I may steal this one, too.

    Hugs :)

  4. Miss Understood says:

Robyn – Please do. I would LOVE to read about your year. I think I might just grab the tissues first though… x

  5. Mike says:

Matchbox Twenty, you have great taste in music. “Yourself or someone like you” was their best album in my view.

  6. rn_buffoon says:

If I had a song that summed up how I was in 2005 it would have been Unwell…it’s words are mine, too!

You certainly came a ways last year Miss; and so it’s funny that in the short time I’ve ‘known’ you I’ve never perceived you as a depressed or mentally confused woman; but always someone telling their stories about When they were low on Life and themselves. Always in the Past Tense if you know what I mean!

To me, it seems like it could have been a Lifetime removed away from where you are in life right now and the person you’ve become…the only evidence of ‘Her’ is in your stories.

I know( if you’re anything like me) you’re your own worst critic. We should both learn to lighten up on ourselves, hey?

    Here’s to a fantaatic Year!

  7. Ted says:

I suppose my personal song-that-sums-me-up for 2006 would been the same theme I’ve embodied for years.

The Theme from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

  8. Leigh says:

This was an awesome post. I do love Match Box 20.

Hope you are having a great day.

I hate to have to be the one to break this to you though honey, Charlie … he’s dead ya know.

I think everyone should steal this post, but I guess that would be a bit greedy!!

    Happy 2007 and beyond. x

  11. Suze says:

Wow! I think I now know you very well. May this year be your best yet. :)

  12. Dan says:

I’m not crazy I’m just a little impaired I know, right now you don’t care

In other words, you’re human. And I do care.

2007 is going to kick ass for us! I know it!

    Wow.

    Steve~

  18. Green Eyes says:

Loved this one! I have lime green alligator shoes! I love them! Tell your hubby that those shoes are so ugly, they’re cool!!!

    Hugs, Miss!

  19. Miss Understood says:

Mike – I don’t actually know a lot of their stuff, so I think I’ll have to investigate…

rn_buffoon – That person does seem a long way removed from the person I am today…it’s amazing how time can heal. Yes, I agree – we are too hard on ourselves a lot of the time. I think that’s one of the most difficult things to change though. We can but try! Well done to you for turnng things around last year. x

Ted – Rocky and Bullwinkle. Hmmm. I can recall an American friend of mine talking about them, although when it comes to the theme tune, I’m cluless. Google, here I come!

Leigh – Thaks sweetie. Hope your day is going well too.x

    Kitty – Thanks!

Ali – I know he’s a right scumbag, but leaving his character aside, he is pretty gorgeous. I actually felt quite sorry for him!

I’d love to see you do this :)

Suze – I hope there’s much more to come in the future. Fingers crossed for a great 12 months! x

Dan – Aww, thanks babe. I really hope you have lots of reasons to smile this year. x

Erika – That’s a relief! It’s good to know there’s a penguin out there who feels the same!

April – It was great, wasn’t it? And please…steal away. I just hope you find the time to post it! x

Art – It was good, wasn’t it? I think Comic Mummy created it.

Fluffycat – So many lazy people out there today! Must be something in the air… :)

Steven – None. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Does that make me odd?

GE – Wow…they sound awesome. Post a pic…I wanna see!

  20. Cherrie says:

“I started a blog. I took off my clothes on the internet. I questioned my sanity.”

Hopefully the last one is not related to the first two!

And I hope 2007 brings you more of the things you want, dear lady.

  21. thru my eyes says:

Awwwww, You are the best person I met in 2006 too. In fact, many times would have been almost unbearable for me without YOU. I love you MISS U.
I love when you do these things, I get to know you a little better each time. May I steal this also???
    xo
    TME

  22. Miss Understood says:

Cherrie – Now you come to mention it, lol!

No…seriously, taking my clothes off was the BEST thing I could have done. I’m a very different woman nw because of it.

TME- Get outta here! You are far too kind to me! (And I also know the other special bloggers you met last year, who touched your heart. x)

Of course you can steal it. I did! xx

  23. Ali says:

Elaine, that sounds like a challenge! I’ll give it some thought!!
